Located in Brookline, Massachusetts, this stately 1920 Center Entrance Colonial underwent a transformative whole-house renovation that beautifully marries timeless elegance with modern convenience. The project was a comprehensive reimagining—from the ground up—resulting in a refined yet comfortable home that honors its historic roots while embracing the lifestyle needs of the homeowners.
We began by thoughtfully gutting the home down to the studs, allowing us to reconfigure and expand the layout to better suit the needs of our client. Major updates included the addition of a third-floor bedroom suite, a spacious first-floor family room, a functional new mudroom, and a well-appointed au pair suite in the basement.
At the heart of the home, the kitchen received a stunning transformation. Featuring custom walnut cabinetry and striking granite countertops, the space is grounded by 3½-inch quarter-sawn white oak flooring that flows seamlessly throughout the main living areas. A handcrafted island adds warmth and sophistication, while a top-tier appliance suite—including a Wolf induction range, double Wolf wall ovens, Bosch dishwasher and a Sub-Zero refrigerator—ensures both beauty and performance.
To preserve the home's original character, we designed a covered back porch that feels true to its 1920s origins. This charming space transitions effortlessly into the new family room, creating an ideal setting for indoor-outdoor living. The mudroom was carefully integrated into the existing structure, blending function and form in a way that feels entirely natural to the home’s design.
The second floor was extensively reimagined to include a serene primary suite with dual dressing rooms and a luxurious four-piece bathroom. The spa-like bath features a steam shower, private water closet, and a double vanity topped with cascading waterfall countertops. Additional updates include a guest room, a combined guest room/office, a full bathroom, and a dedicated laundry room—all designed with comfort and practicality in mind.
No detail was overlooked in bringing this historic home into the 21st century. A brand-new 400-amp electrical service, full plumbing overhaul, and a high-efficiency Unico HVAC system ensure seamless year-round comfort. New Marvin windows on the first and third-floor additions provide energy efficiency while preserving the home’s classic aesthetic.
This whole house remodel is a shining example of how thoughtful design and expert craftsmanship can breathe new life into a historic home, resulting in a space that feels both timeless and tailored to modern living.
