About This Dutch Gambrel Home Renovation

This 1902 Dutch Gambrel home renovation was extensive. Keeping true to its heritage, all five bathrooms and a complete gut kitchen renovation were part of the complex project. The homeowners asked for a mudroom, so we built a new addition and added a very inviting cedar deck above the new mudroom.

A primary component of this Gambrel home renovation was a complete remodel of the five bathrooms! In the primary bath and the powder room, the homeowners requested modern wall-hung toilets. The Duravit toilet tanks are mounted in the wall, and the toilets float in the space. We created a 2x6 steel structure to support the commode and its occupant. To increase the square footage of the primary bathroom, we combined two smaller rooms to make room for a luxurious stand-alone tub and a glass wall shower enclosure. For the ultimate comfort, we included a radiant floor heating system.

One of the features the homeowners wanted in this Gambrel home renovation was a mudroom. To accomplish this, we added an addition to house the new oversized mudroom. The brand-new cedar deck above is the perfect private space for the homeowners. The mudroom features built-in seating and storage cubbies for winter coats, boots, sports equipment, and more.

This Was A Proper Whole-House Remodel.

Items upgraded as part of this Dutch Gambrel home renovation included a complete HVAC and heating system, painting the entire house, and installing a new state-of-the-art sound system. The bathrooms and kitchen include several different types of hand-laid tiles. All the appliances were upgraded, including a chef's range with dual ovens. To add functionality, we built a custom-made banquette in the kitchen. Both benches have hidden storage with side-mounted drawers that slide into the space. To bring the interior stairs up to meet the building code, we raised the ceiling 18 inches, widened the staircase, and installed a new contemporary light fixture from Circa lighting.

From the radiant flooring to the custom banquette, this Dutch Gambrel home renovation is a premier example of what a historic house remodel can be.
