AboutThis Colonial Home Remodel in Somerville, MA

Creating a Warm, Whimsical Kitchen And Classic Bathroom

For this 1890 Colonial home remodel, we took the kitchen and bath down to the studs. The home underwent a remodel in 2001. The space looked dated. It beckoned for more light and a place to set a table. With those two goals, we went to work.

We installed white oak flooring to compliment the cabinetry and used bright white subway tile with dark grout for the backsplash to create a timeless look. To complete our simple and functional design, we replaced the old appliances with a suite of GE Cafe appliances. The timeless design transformed the kitchen into an inviting haven to be enjoyed for decades! We added a window in the kitchen to let in more light, opened space into the living room, and added a custom pocket door with oblique trim.

The bathroom was taken down to the studs as part of this Colonial home remodel. The demolition uncovered a problem that required structural work and the installation of a support beam. We carried the 3 X 6 white subway tile from the kitchen into the bath's shower surround to complete and balance our design. The bath has Restoration Hardware bathroom lights and Symmons shower and tub filler.

The kitchen in this 1890 Colonial home remodel was transformed from an enclosed, poorly lit space into an open, bright space with room for all.
